How Scandinavian Village uses cookies when you visit our website.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device. Similar technologies – such as “local storage” and “session storage” – work in much the same way. They are used to make websites function, to remember information, and to understand how a site is being used.
Our approach
We keep tracking to a minimum. This website does not use advertising, marketing or social-media tracking cookies, and we do not use third-party analytics services such as Google Analytics. We do not sell or share your browsing data with anyone.
What this website uses
Website analytics
To understand how many people visit and which pages are popular, we use our own privacy-friendly analytics. This stores a random, anonymous visitor ID in your browser’s local storage (not a cookie) so we can count returning visits without identifying you. We record the page viewed, the website you arrived from, your device type, and a shortened version of your IP address – the final part is removed, so you cannot be personally identified. No personal information is collected. This analytics runs only if you accept it on the cookie banner shown when you first visit; you can change your choice at any time using the “Cookie Settings” link in the footer.
Essential cookies (staff only)
These are set only if you sign in to our private administration area, which is for staff. They are not set for ordinary visitors:
- PHPSESSID – keeps an administrator signed in during their visit. It expires when the browser is closed.
- sv_admin – allows the site to leave staff visits out of the analytics figures. It lasts up to six months, or until the administrator signs out.
Bookings and payments
When you make a booking, the details are held temporarily in your browser’s session storage to carry them through the payment process, and are cleared automatically afterwards. Payments are handled securely by Stripe. When you continue to payment you are taken to Stripe’s checkout, where Stripe sets its own cookies to process the payment and to help prevent fraud. These are covered by Stripe’s own cookie and privacy policies.
Links to other websites
Some links – for example information booklets, forms and members’ documents – take you to third-party websites such as FlippingBook and Google Forms. Once you leave our site, those providers may set their own cookies, which are governed by their own policies.
Managing cookies
You can control or delete cookies and stored data through your browser settings, and you can set your browser to block them. Please note that blocking essential cookies may prevent the staff area from working, and clearing local storage simply resets the anonymous analytics ID. General guidance is available at aboutcookies.org.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page.
